Sachets
In twos
they sat
Laughing
at private jokes
Holding
hands briefly
Or not,
it doesn't matter, their eyes lock
For an
instant of time
Understanding
flows
Electricity
is with it and a knee is touched
No words
are spoken
There is
complete and utter understanding
Of the
action to take
Calmly
the sugar sachet is ripped
And poured
into coffee
Such a
momentous action required no discussion
Just a
look and a flow
An ape could
do that, a chimpanzee
A wild
dog, a lioness or an otter
Automatic
responses to stimuli is all
Prompted
by needs of animals
Some more
educated than others
In the
ways of their world
With nicer
sachets of sugar
Who listen
to radio broadcasts of wars waged
Wars waged
on their own kind
By the
makers of nice sachets of sugar
Listen
to crime statistics of the educated animals
Of statistics
of the number of hard wood trees clear felled
For coffee
tables and dining tables for the sachets of sugar
While the
otter chisels to build a home
Softwood
or hard wood it makes no difference
But an
otter is only an animal
They choose
softwood - they are not stupid
And don't
need nice sachets of sugar.
