NEW THINGS ON THE INTERNET
SITE
There are a bunch
of small things now on the site, that weren't there last Saturday, but
which may be easy to overlook, because they're 'how to contact' resources
for netscribblers.
WHEN IT COMES TO CONTACT
Every community
depends on contact to keep it alive. The Internet has often been accused
of being impersonal. The BBS breakthrough on Nexus would tend to show that
'togetherness can be done', and it would be good if Scribble could learn
from that.
ALREADY IN PLACE
There is also a BraveNet message area reachable
from the NetPoets area. I'll be making that more accessible over the next
few days. Gaggemuffin, Frigg, Loadstar, Valkyrie and Alys have on
occasion posted there. Feel free to say something:) Post something new,
and generally chatter on.
NEW THINGS
I've
also set up an email list for those of you who want to know when there
are new things on the site. It is subscriber only, and meant to save me
writing half a dozen little emails every week to say: we've a new poem
by - those songs are up - and I posted some news five minutes ago. You'll
find that on the Scribble plans page.
Some of you will have received an invitation to join wordlovers email group.
So far I've done nothing with it beyond setting it up. I'm hoping that
that will be more a conversational group. where poetry and other writing
may be posted and discussed before submission. After all, what goes up
on the web is fairly permanent. Some of us don't wish to go that far in
the first instance. TO SUBSCRIBE just go
to the forums page.

I
#SCRIBBLE
Channel Scribble has
been set up on Starchat. net. I've been present, in a vague sort of way
all day. Give me a few days, I'm considering a direct link from the web
site to the channel, and want to see whether the Java Chat option is as
smooth as the system Nexus uses. I already know that Java Chat is not network
friendly.
When things are more settled
we'll establish some sort of 'common time' for being there. The Nexus Hour
- Hour and a bit, hours and more or less sometimes has certainly had some
great moments of success.
IRC is not everyone's
cup of cappuccino. However, if you enjoy IRC chat without the inanity,
or have inclinations to discuss creative theory, you might also be interested
to drop into #mahler. The emphasis there is (surprised look) musical. The
place is opped by Tristan, (Classic) and some female called Alys, so you
need not expect it to be all seriousness.
SITE SEARCH ENGINE
Back
to the site now. Theoretically, if you hit INDEX
from anywhere on Scribble you'll arrive at a kind of contents page
and a new search engine. Of course the search engine is only as efficient
as the meta tags are and I'm finding them surprisingly difficult to use
correctly. However, as things are gradually updated the search engine should
be more efficient, and even Meta Tags have got to be easier than trying
to index this place by hand. Haven't they?
